    Breastfeeding break resolution introduced

A state lawmaker asked officials to provide working women who are breastfeeding their babies to provide the appropriate breaks in order to comply with local and federal law.

Assemblywoman Margarita Corro, an Institutional Revolutionary Party member from Tecate, introduced a resolution a week after the world celebrated breastfeeding week set by the United Nations in 1992.

She recalled the World Health Organization recommends breastfeeding as the only and best way to feed babies during their first six months of life by providing them with macro-nutrients like vitamins and minerals necessary for their development and growth.

Corro said state and federal law allows breaks to working mothers in order to feed their children.

However, she underlined the fact that these laws are not obeyed by employers.

She also said breastfeeding reduces the risk of pregnancy and cancer.
