A state official said the state has not reported any local zika cases during 2016.
However, State Epidemiologist Chief Néstor Hernández said the Mexican Social Security Institute, or IMSS in Spanish, had a case in Tijuana of a 43-year-old man infected with the disease.
The individual got the illness during a trip to the state of Chiapas last year.
The patient survived the sickness, Hernández said.
The Diagnosis and Epidemiological Reference Institute confirmed the case Jan. 29, which was registered in Chiapas.
The official asked residents to remain aware of the illness by following the appropriate preventive measures to avoid contact and spread of the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
Abandoned drugs picked up
A state official said hundreds of abandoned drugs left in a southerly lake were picked up by authorities Tuesday.
Sanitary Risk Protection Director Leopoldo Jiménez said the medicines found at Laguna México were taken by office staff under parameters set by public health law.
The abandoned drugs were left by unknown individuals, according to media reports.
Jiménez said for authorities handling medicines in an appropriate way is a priority.
According to media outlets, the medicines were left in two different sites by the side of the lake at Fraccionamiento Lago del Sol.
Among the hundreds of boxes containing drugs found were folic acid and pain relievers that were due on April 2015.
Alleged murderer arrested
A Mexico City man who allegedly killed an individual was arrested Tuesday by state police officers in a rural town, said the State Public Safety Department.
Authorities said police agents arrested Juan “Doe,” 28, of Mexico City, at Ejido Lázaro Cárdenas, east of Mexicali.
State police officers determined the individual was hiding in a residence located at Jesús García Street and Fourth Street.
The state troopers found the suspect while walking on the street, authorities said.
The suspect had an arrest warrant for an undisclosed murder occurred during a fight.
The man was transported before a prosecutor to begin his processing.
Thunderstorms expected for weekend
The Municipal Civil Protection Unit said the increase of moisture and temperatures will also turn into possible thunderstorms beginning Friday.
The agency said expected temperatures for Thursday are 111 degrees, 113 for Friday and 107 for Saturday.
In the mean time, humidity will increase to 40 percent on Thursday and to 50 percent on Friday, while reducing to 20 percent on Saturday.
The agency asked residents to take precautionary measures in case of travel due to a reduced visibility and the falling of trees, signals and rocks.
Authorities also requested residents to keep preventive measures to avoid heat related illnesses and in case needed to attend the temporary shelter located at Colonia Guajardo.
