    Robbery reform bill introduced

A state lawmaker introduced a bill that seeks to increase penalties against those who commit robberies against minors.
Assemblywoman Mónica Bedoya, a Mexicali member of the National Action Party, said the goal of the proposal is to protect minors.
The measure includes a provision that would mandate the payment of psychological and physical therapy if the victim needs it.
If enacted, the bill would reform Article 201 of the State’s Penal Code and will add between six months and three years of prison and between $411 and $4117 in robbery cases committed against a minor.
Bedoya said state schools are open for morning and afternoon schedules and students can leave school up to 9 p.m.
“Minors, like any other person, can suffer robberies and, especially in these cases, besides the patrimonial or physical damage there are psychological consequences,” she said. “Let’s remember that (minors) are in psychological development and a crime like these can change their lives radically.”
Criminals can take from gadgets easily from minors during the early and late stages of the day, she added.
