Hundreds of cops are under investigation by city agencies for ordinance violations or incompliance with regulations
Hundreds of cops of the Mexicali Police Department are under investigation — meaning close to four out of every five of the agency’s manpower.
Investigations are based on ordinance violations or incompliance with police regulations.
Mexicali Police Chief Pedro Ariel Mendívil told La Voz newspaper since the administration began over a year ago 80 police agents have been dismissed. In some cases agents were accused back in 2015.
Since October 2021, the agency has either dismissed or separated 28 police officers. In one case two cops were removed under allegations of kidnapping. In another case two more agents were removed under allegations of extortion.
Chief Mendívil added that many of the dismissed agents failed to appear to work after becoming US Permanent Residents.
Two new casinos under construction
Mexicali will become home to a couple more additional casinos in the coming future.
Rogelio Guzmán, City Urban Administration Director told La Voz newspaper the casinos received last year’s permits and construction licenses.
According to the city official, no other casinos are under permitting process.
One of those casinos is under construction close to the interesting of Hector Terán Avenue and Anáhuac Boulevard — close to the Police Headquarters.
The second project is located by Justo Sierra Boulevard — a block away from another casino.
Recently, another casino was opened in downtown Mexicali by the Chinesca (or Chinatown) area.
Years ago, Mexico modified its legislation in order to allow gaming casinos after decades of prohibition.
