    Crime rate report released

    Vehicle theft and business burglaries increased in September compared to August while residential burglaries and homicide victims decreased during last month in Mexicali, according to a report released by the Citizen Public Safety Council of Baja California. 

    According to the advisory independent group seven of the city ten areas with the highest crime rates are urban — Downtown, Civic Center, Colonia Pueblo Nuevo, Colonia Hidalgo, Fraccionamiento Villa del Rey, Fraccionamiento Valle de Puebla, González Ortega, Nuevo Mexicali.

    Vehicle theft is less reported Wednesdays and from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m., similar to home burglaries.

    Residential robberies are higher on Mondays, the report states.

    Business burglaries are less committed Thursday thru Sunday, contrary to business robberies.

    Residents are less likely to suffer a robbery in public ways Mondays and Thursdays.

    The largest incidence of homicide cases lies on Fridays and between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., according to the report

    Although no kidnappings have been reported, false imprisonment cases are more frequent Friday thru Monday.

    Man sentenced for burglary

    A man who worked as a security guard in a shopping mall was sentenced to seven years in prison after admitting the commitment of a burglary, said the Attorney General’s office.

    The agency said the convicted man was identified as Ernesto “Doe,” no age reported.

    The individual committed a burglary on March 26 at the Sonora Steak Taco shop located in a mall at Anáhuac Boulevard and Monarcas Avenue at Fraccionamiento Villas del Rey neighborhood in southern Mexicali.

    After being alone at the scene the security guard entered the cash register area and took two computers, a lap top, a source of power, a screen and other items.

    In order to avoid his arrest the suspect quit his job, the agency said.

    However, the individual was apprehended two months later by state police officers.

    Assistant Attorney General in Mexicali Fernando Ramírez said the suspect sentence was defined by a state judge during an abbreviated trial.

    Girl found dead

    A 2-year-old girl was found dead Monday inside her residence, according to media reports.

    The girl died at her Fraccionamiento Misión San Angel neighborhood in southeastern Mexicali.

    According to the reports police officers arrived at the scene at 10:30 a.m.

    Detectives and investigators were called on scene after the death of Emma Sofía “Doe” was confirmed in the initial reports.

    The girl’s stepfather told authorities the toddler fell down.

    The man, who was identified as Javier Enrique “Doe,” 23, was detained for questioning in the incident.

    Men apprehended for sexual abuse

    Two men were arrested by state police officers for their alleged involvement in separate sexual abuse incidents, said the Attorney General's office.

    Authorities said the first suspect was identified as Juan Manuel Ibarra.

    The suspect was apprehended at Carranza Boulevard in eastern Mexicali.

    Police officers detained the man after noticing nervousness from the suspect.

    According to the agency the man had an arrest warrant since 2010 under charges of sexual abuse against a 9-year-old girl.

    According to authorities the suspect was married with the victim's grandmother.

    The agency said the suspect touched the girl inappropriately for three years.

    The other suspect was identified as Rogelio Caballero Jiménez, who had an arrest warrant since 2010.

    The suspect was arrested at Fraccionamiento Villafontana subdivision in western Mexicali.

    According to the agency the suspect allegedly abused his step-daughter for seven years since the victim was 6 years of age.

    Both suspects were booked in Mexicali Jail.
