    Firearms, ammunition seized by state agents

    Firearms, ammunition, magazines and two vehicles reported stolen were seized days ago by state police agents

    State and Mexican police officers arrested two men with firearms, ammunition cartridges, magazines and a vehicle reported stolen out of Brawley.

    The state Department of Public Safety said Wednesday the arrest took place in the Ejido Oviedo Mota rural town.

    Authorities identified the suspects as José Ángel “N,” 22, and Adolfo Ángel “N,” 23, both of Mexicali.

    The police received a report about armed men in the area who were driving several vehicles.

    State police agents, along with military personnel and National Guard agents arrived on the scene.

    The suspects allegedly attempted to flee but were detained briefly.

    The agents seized three vehicles, including a gray 2019 Kia Forte with California plates that were reported stolen out of Brawley back in October.

    Also, the agents seized a white 2010 Nissan Frontier with California plates and a black and red off-road Can-Am vehicle with no registration.

    The latter was reported stolen out of San Diego in July.

    Agents also seized two police vests, 19 firearm magazines, a backpack, a shotgun, a carbine, and a pistol, as well as 735 ammunition cartridges.

    The suspects and the seized items were turned to the Mexican Attorney General’s office.

    Man sentenced for sexual abuse of girls

    A man was sentenced by a state judge for a sexual abuse case of two girls.

    The state Attorney General’s office said a judge sentenced Antonio “N,” no age reported, who is also known as Marco Peña., to 42 years in prison.

    According to the agency, the individual first inappropriately touched two girls ages 8 and 9 from March 2015 to July 2019. Then, the man sexually abused the minors.

    Victims’ relatives filed complaints against Antonio with the Attorney General’s office.

    The minors did not report the sexual abuse case for fear of retaliation.

    Dismembered, burned corpse found

    The dismembered and burned body of a male was found Monday morning in a rural Mexicali area.

    According to police reports, the body was found at 8:30 a.m. in the Colonia Cerro Prieto 5 area.

    The body was next to an irrigation canal.

    According to the report, the victim was about 30 years of age and had green socks and part of a shirt.

    Children rescued from hotel

    Mexicali police officers rescued six children from a hotel room after their mother went missing.

    The police received a report Sunday morning regarding the children who were in a hotel room in the Colonia Zacatecas area, just west of the Civic Center.

    Hotel employees told the police a woman rented the room and eventually left in order to get more cash to rent an additional day.

    The woman did not return for 20 hours.

    The minors were 3-14 years of age and from the state of Sonora.

    Police officers were unable to contact the children’s relatives.

    The children were turned to the Mexicali Police Unit against Domestic Violence.

    Two sentenced for sexual abuse of minors

    Two men were sentenced separately for sexual abuse of minors.

    In the first case, a judge sentenced Gary Alberto Morales Gutiérrez to 12 years in prison.

    The sentencing was reached after an agreement between the defense attorney and prosecutors, the state Attorney General’s office said.

    The individual was accused of committing sexual abuse of a 13-year-old girl back on Aug. 2.

    The case reportedly occurred in a home located in an undisclosed area.

    In the second case, a judge sentenced a man to aggravated pederasty.

    The agency said Jorge Pérez Camacho was sentenced to 10 years and nine months for the Sept. 2020 case.

    Prosecutors confirmed the case through psychological and gynecological tests.

    The hearing was held on March 8.

    The judge also ruled the convicted man must pay over 48,000 pesos or about $2,639 USD for damage repair.

    Woman found dead in rural Mexicali

    A woman was found dead Monday morning in a rural area.

    According to news media reports the corpse was found on a dirt road next to a canal in the Ejido Palo Verde.

    The 30-year-old victim had a shotgun wound in the cheek.

    Authorities said the victim was dressed in a brown sweater, short denim jeans, and black boots.

    The police found at the scene ten 9 mm caliber bullet casings.

    Man found dead west of Mexicali

    A man was found dead with a shotgun wound Sunday west of Mexicali.

    La Crónica newspaper said the corpse was found at 3:37 p.m. close to Mount Signal.

    An employee with the State Water Commission dialed the police to report the incident.

    Mexicali police officers arrived at the scene and found the body of a man in his mid-30s dressed on black slacks and burgundy sweater.

    The man had a shotgun wound in the head.

    The body was turned to the state Coroner’s office.

    Man shot to death

    A 58-year-old man was found dead Saturday afternoon in the Colonia Solidaridad Social area, according to media reports.

    The incident was reported to the police at 2:58 p.m.

    The victim was identified as Vicente Cervantes Estrella.

    A reporting party told the police the victim was found dead inside the home’s bathroom.

    Mexicali police officers arrived at the scene after receiving a report.

    Witnesses told the police a black Volkswagen Jetta with California plates was seen leaving the area after the shooting.

    Man shot in residence

    A man was injured after being shot Saturday at his Colonia Baja California area.

    According to media reports the victim arrived in a vehicle at the Red Cross clinic located in the Pueblo Nuevo area.

    The victim was admitted close to 2:00 a m.

    The victim was identified as Juan Carlos, 38.

    According to the report, the victim had four shotgun wounds in the legs.

    The victim’s wife and a neighbor transported the victim to the clinic after the shooting.

    Authorities said the incident occurred by Bahia Tortuga Avenue.

    The victim told the police unknown individuals shot at him from a dark colored vehicle.

    According to the agency, the victim was eventually transported to the General Hospital.

    Man sought for murder arrested

    A man who authorities were looking for since September for homicide was nabbed by state police officers.

    The state Attorney General’s office said Angel Roberto, no age reported, was arrested for the Sept. 5 murder of a man who was found dead inside an irrigation canal in the Fraccionamiento Angeles de Puebla area.

    The victim had several injuries caused with a knife.

    According to the agency, the victim and the suspect were seen in the area along the other individuals.

    The victim was kept against his will in a residence.

    Authorities said the suspect was booked in Mexicali Prison.
