    Teacher sought for sexual abuse caught

    A Leona Vicario Elementary School teacher sought for sexual abuse was caught in Cancun, in the state of Quintana Roo

    An elementary teacher sought for sexual abuse of over a dozen students was found and arrested in Cancun.

    The state Attorney General’s office of the state of Quintana Roo said in a statement Ricardo Roberto Acuña Angles was arrested over the weekend.

    Authorities said the suspect was a teacher at Leona Vicario Elementary School and was accused of sexual abuse and pederasty.

    The agency said Acuña Angles was arrested at the Fraccionamiento Jardines del Sur area during an operation held by state police officers and Marine personnel.

    According to the agency, staff with the Baja California Attorney General’s office requested help for the arrest after learning Acuña Angles’ whereabouts.

    The Baja California Attorney General’s office offered a 500,000 pesos reward for information leading to the teacher’s arrest.

    The suspect was able to flee from Mexicali after the school’s principal failed to report the sexual abuse complaints with the police.

    School staff under investigation

    The State Attorney General’s office plans to investigate staff at the Leona Vicario Elementary School after the fleeing of a teacher accused of sexual abuse.

    Baja California’s main prosecutor said those involved in the presumed cover of teacher Ricardo Roberto Acuña Angles who was arrested ordered the weekend in Cancun.

    The suspect had 10 arrest warrants and 14 complaints for sexual abuse and pederasty.

    State Attorney General Ricardo Ivan Carpio said the agency will always seek to protect children.

    The teacher was indicted Sunday evening by a state judge for one of the 14 cases of sexual abuse of elementary female students.

    According to the authorities the judge decided to keep the suspect in prison during trial and gave prosecutors three months to close the investigation.

    The four-hour indictment hearing started at 11:16 p.m. Sunday at Courtroom 6.

    In the privately held hearing only prosecutors and defense attorneys were allowed in.

    In this case Acuña Angles was accused of allegedly touching a girl inappropriately on Nov. 28 in a school classroom.

    The crime in this case carries a 20 year prison sentence.

    Young man dead shot

    An 18-year-old man was shot to death Wednesday evening in a western Mexicali subdivision.

    According to police reports, the incident was reported at 7:41 a.m. at 207 Versalles Boulevard in the Fraccionamiento Villafontana subdivision.

    The victim was identified as Osvaldo Ezequiel Camacho Lopez.

    The victim had a shotgun wound in the back,the report says.

    Witnesses told the police two individuals in their mid-30s arrived at the scene and asked for the taco man.

    Suddenly, the suspects shot at another individual.

    The teenager exited his home and shot at the suspects.

    Authorities said the teenager was injured during the shooting.

    At the scene, the police found a 9 mm caliber bullet casing and a gray firearm.

    The suspects fled on a white 1990 Chevy S10.

    Homicide suspect sentenced

    A state judge sentenced a man to spend 23 years in prison for homicide, the state Attorney General’s office said.

    According to the authorities, the judge sentenced Raúl Alberto Figueroa Arizona, aka “Charmin,” for the June 2020 rural Mexicali homicide.

    In the hearing, the suspect admitted having murdered Luis Enrique Doe early on June 10, 2020.

    The suspect and the victim were in an Ejido Tlaxcala rural town residence with other individuals.

    Both the victim and the suspect had an argument that led Figueroa Arizona to strike Luis Enrique’s head with a shovel.

    The victim died of head trauma, the agency said.

    According to the authorities, the corpse was found in an empty lot located between Ejido Jalapa and Ejido Tlaxcala towns.

    The sentencing hearing was held on Jan. 4.

    The judge also ruled the suspect must pay over USD $20,000 in restitution.

    Man dead shot in southern Mexicali

    A man was shot to death inside his Fraccionamiento Vistas del Valle neighborhood home Monday morning.

    According to local media outlet reports the incident was reported to the police by neighbors about 3 a.m. at Sierra Laguna Street.

    Neighbors told the police several shots were heard in the residence.

    The police arrived three hours later and found the victim dead.

    The victim had a shotgun wound in the head, reports say.

    A 20-year-old man told the police the victim, who was only identified by the nickname of “Vampi,” was found at the residence.

    The witness said he arrived at the site to purchase cigarettes.

    According to neighbors, the home is used to sell and consume illegal substances.

    Christmas robbery suspect indicted

    A state judge indicted a man who allegedly committed a couple of robberies on Christmas Eve, the state Attorney General’s office said.

    According to the authorities, the judge first indicted Brian Edsel, no age reported, for a Fraccionamiento Valle del Pedregal area convenience store robbery.

    The authorities said the suspect arrived at the scene and demanded cash to store employees.

    After being denied cash, the suspect allegedly took employees’ belongings, including a 2004 Mitsubishi Eclipse owned by one of the workers.

    The suspect attempted to flee the vehicle but was unable to turn it on.

    The judge also indicted the suspect for a second robbery of a convenience store in the area that night.

    According to the agency the suspect arrived at the scene and allegedly threatened employees to demand cash.

    The suspect fled with cash but was eventually apprehended.

    The judge decided to keep the suspect in prison during the trial and gave prosecutors two months to finish the investigation.
