    Man sentenced for femicide

    A state judge sentenced a man for femicide for the February 2019 murder of his wife in an area close to the Police Headquarters

    A man was sentenced by a state judge for a Feb. 2019 femicide.

    The individual was convicted for the homicide of his own wife, the state Attorney General’s office said.

    The agency said Francisco Sesma Murillo was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the Feb. 20, 2019 shooting of the victim.

    According to the report the couple was separated for quite some time.

    The judge ruled the sentence after prosecutors and defense attorneys reached an agreement.

    Authorities said the day of the incident the victim was driving a golden-colored Oldsmobile Alero.

    The suspect, driving a white Nissan Tsuru, stopped the victim at the intersection of Xochimilco Avenue and Laguna Viesca Avenue.

    According to the agency, the suspect then got off the vehicle and shot at the victim.

    The injured woman was transported to the General Hospital where she succumbed to the injuries three months later.

    Corpse found inside canal

    The corpse of a man was found inside an irrigation canal Saturday evening.

    According to a State Attorney General’s office report, the body was found at 5:12 p.m. in the Fraccionamiento La Condesa area.

    The report says state police agents found the male’s body inside the canal.

    The agency’s report says the corpse was burned.

    No other details were provided.

    Last year the city broke records in homicides.

    Judge indicts doctor for sexual abuse

    A doctor who works for a Mexican hospital system was indicted by a federal judge for alleged sexual abuse.

    La Crónica newspaper said Alonso Enrique “N,” 53, a doctor for the Issste System was arrested on Feb. 2 by Mexican police officers and booked in Mexicali prison.

    The suspect was arraigned and indicted on Feb. 4.

    According to the report the sexual abuse case of a patient allegedly occurred at the Issste Hospital located in Mexicali Civic Center.

    The newspaper said the victim filed a complaint with the Mexican Attorney General’s office. The incident was turned to a federal judge.

    According to the newspaper, the judge decided to keep the suspect in prison. The judge also ruled the trial must not go beyond two years.

    The suspect is an Autonomous University of Baja California graduate, also works for the state and teaches at the state university School of Medicine.

    Police arrests man sought for rape

    A man who was sought in Sonora for rape was arrested by state police officers.

    The state Attorney General’s office said Alexis Arturo “N” was arrested on an undisclosed date by Independencia Avenue between Ninth Street and Carranza Boulevard in eastern Mexicali.

    According to the agency, the suspect had an outstanding arrest warrant issued by a Sonoran judge for rape.

    The suspect was turned to Sonoran police agents.

    Judge indicts man for domestic violence

    A man who allegedly robbed, threatened, and kept a relative against her will in a residence was indicted by a state judge.

    The state Attorney General’s office said a judge indicted Ramon Abraham “N,” no age disclosed, for the Jan. 28 incident.

    According to the authorities, the suspect allegedly held an argument with his relative in a Colonia Gasca area residence.

    The suspect presumably assaulted the victim. Then, Ramon Abraham allegedly kept the victim in a bedroom while threatening her with a knife.

    Authorities said the suspect then took the victim’s smartphone, 500 pesos, and fled from the scene.

    The suspect returned the next day with a shotgun to keep threatening the victim, the agency’s report says.

    Prosecutors gathered evidence, including witness testimony, to request an indictment from the judge.

    The hearing was held on Feb. 7.

    The judge decided to keep the suspect in prison during the trial and gave prosecutors two months to close the investigation.

    Robbery suspect indicted

    A man who last month allegedly robbed a convenience store at gunpoint was indicted by a state judge.

    The state Attorney General’s office said the judge indicted Luis Enrique “N,” no age reported, for the Jan. 29 robbery of a Fraccionamiento Parajes de Puebla area convenience store.

    According to the agency, the suspect entered the store and threatened an employee with a firearm. The suspect then allegedly demanded cash.

    According to the authorities, the suspect attempted to flee but was nabbed by Mexicali Police officers.

    The judge decided to keep the suspect in prison during the trial and gave prosecutors two months to close the investigation.

    College union robbed at gunpoint

    Two men allegedly robbed the offices of the Autonomous University of Baja California Union.

    The suspects took 80,000 pesos or about $4,000 USD, La Voz newspaper said.

    According to the report, the suspects arrived at the union’s office to ask for the payment made to college employees.

    Suddenly, one of the suspects brandished a firearm and demanded cash.

    The armed suspect made a single shot and threatened union employees.

    According to the report, the suspects took several envelopes with cash and fled on a yellow Chevrolet Aveo.

    Police officers found the vehicle at the intersection of Vicente Guerrero Avenue and Río Mocorito Street.

    The suspects were described as wearing shirts similar to those used by university maintenance employees.
